Itinerary of Shishapangma Trekking Expedition

Day 1Arrival in Lhasa

Elevation: 3656m.

After your arrival, we’ll take you to your comfortable hotel. But here’s a piece of advice for all travelers: it’s crucial to rest well on your first day to acclimatize to the high-altitude environment of Tibet. Your body needs time to adjust to the lower oxygen levels, so take it slow and easy. Many travelers find a short nap quite refreshing.

In the evening, our team will pay you a visit at your hotel. We’ll discuss the itinerary for the upcoming days and any other details you might need to know. If time allows, we’d love to treat you to a delightful dinner at a Tibetan restaurant. Day 2Lhasa guided tour

Visit Jokhang Temple and Sera monastery.

Welcome to the beginning of your adventure in Tibet with the Shishapangma Trekking Expedition! Today, the journey commences with a fascinating exploration of the heart of Lhasa, the spiritual and cultural center of Tibet.

As the sun rises, and after you’ve enjoyed a hearty breakfast, your friendly guide will meet you at your hotel. What’s remarkable about your location is that you’re already in the heart of the Tibetan quarter of Lhasa city, so you’ll start your day with a leisurely walk to the Jokhang Temple, the holiest temple in Tibetan Buddhism. This serene pilgrimage is the perfect introduction to the spiritual essence of Tibet.

After visiting the Jokhang Temple, you’ll have some free time to meander through the charming streets of Old Lhasa city, exploring the local culture at your own pace. Your guide will then arrange a specific time and place to meet later in the day.

In the afternoon, prepare to be captivated by the Sera Monastery, one of the most well-preserved and culturally significant monasteries in Tibet. Day 3Lhasa guided tour

Visit Potala Palace, and Drepung Monastery
In the morning of day three, we’re about to explore some of the most iconic landmarks in Tibet.

Our day begins with a visit to the majestic Potala Palace, an architectural marvel and a symbol of Tibetan history and spirituality. This magnificent structure, initially constructed by King Songtsen Gampo in the 7th century and later expanded by the 5th Dalai Lama in the 17th century, has been the
residence of the Dalai Lama and his government for centuries. Climbing the long, steep steps to reach the palace may be a physical challenge, but it’s a journey well worth the effort. Your footsteps on this sacred ground contribute to the rich history of the Potala Palace, recognized as a UNESCO
World Heritage site since 1994.

As the morning adventure concludes, we’ll descend from the backside of the palace, offering a different perspective of this awe-inspiring edifice. In the afternoon, we’ll continue our exploration by visiting the Drepung Monastery, once the world’s largest monastery, housing over 10,000 monks. This monastery was the residence of the Dalai Lama before the Potala Palace. Walking through the winding and narrow lanes that wind through the monks’ living quarters is a thrilling experience that allows you to immerse yourself in the monastery’s rich history and culture.

Day 4Lhasa—Yamdrok Lake—Karo La Glacier—Gyantse— Shigaste

Distance: 350kms, Duration: 7 Hours, Elevation: 3980m
After breakfast, you will hit the road and begin the next part of your Tibet adventure. From Lhasa, you will drive along the scenic Kyi-chu River Valley and then ascend to the top of the 4794 meter Kamba La Pass, which has a breathtaking view of Yamdrok Lake and 7191 meters Mt. Nojin Kangtsang. You will then descend and drive along the lakeshore before making your way back up to the Karo La, a beautiful glacier that comes down almost to the roadside. In the late afternoon, you will arrive in Gyantse.

You will begin by exploring Pelkhor Chode Monastery and the Kumbu Stupa, the largest Buddhist Stupa in Tibet. This beautiful monastery lies within a walled complex in the Gyantse Old Town. A short hike to the top of the wall offers an excellent panoramic view of the monastery, town and the snow-covered mountains in the distance. Afterwards, you will make the short drive to Shigatse, Tibet’s second-largest city. Along the way from Gyantse to Shigatse, you can stop at a couple of interesting farming villages
to experience traditional Tibetan culture. In Shigatse, you will visit the huge monastery of Tashi Lhunpo. The excellent pilgrimage route around the monastery takes about an hour and has fantastic views.

Day 5Shigatse—Gyatso La Pass—Farming Villages—Shelkar —Everest Base Camp

Distance: 350kms Duration: 7 Hours Elevation: 4315m

Today’s destination is the Mount Everest Basecamp. Along the way to Shelkar, you will see more farming villages and beautiful landscapes. You will cross over the 5248 meter Gyatso La Pass, which has great views of the Himalaya Mountains. That afternoon you will arrive in the small town of Shelkar. We will further continue the journey to the Everest Base camp.

From Shelkar we will begin driving up the 5200 meters Pang La Pass. On clear days, this pass offers a stunning panoramic view of the Himalaya’s. You can see four 8000 meter peaks from this Mountain Pass including Cho Oyu, Makalu, Lhotse, and Everest. You will continue on to Rongphu, the highest monastery in the world at just under 5000 meters. Rongphu has an unbelievable view of Everest! From Rongphu, you will then go to Everest Base Camp to stay the night while gazing out to the world’s highest peak.

Day 6Drive further to Nyalam

After a night at the Mount Everest Base Camp, In the morning we will visit explore around the region, visit Rongbuk Monastery, the highest monastery of the world. After seeing the beautiful sunshine on the mount Everest we will bit fare well to the mountain for Nyalam.

On the road to Nyalam, we will stop over to see the meditation cave of Milarepa. A famous yogic of Tibet. The cave is on the mountain looking down to the fertile land with river running through the valley. Upon arrival at Nyalam we will stay in a comfortable hotel and rest for the rest of the day.

Day First day of trekking : Drive to Drabochan, Trekking from Shingdip 4,560m – 05 hrs.

Today is the first trekking day of Shishapangma Trekking Expedition Tour. Our route to south base camp leaves the valley of Drabochan crossing river on a wooden bridge near a big rock, walk heads towards cairns on a ridge top taking an hour or more.

From the ridge trails meanders left and parallels to a ridge crest, after 40 minutes of walks entering from the right towards a broad valley coming to a small village of Ngora and its monastery or Gompa, journey continues straight ahead along hills with thick dwarf rhododendrons bush, after an hour and half of good walk coming to our overnight camp at Shingdip at 14,950ft /4,560m altitude.

Day 8Trek to South Shisapangma Base Camp 5,020 m – 04 hrs.

Today walk lead towards our main goal and destination at South Shisapangma Base Camp, from here about three hours walks to reach our much awaited spot at an altitude above 5,010m.

Heading west with climb from the main valley, and towards a hill to a crest of the ridge, ion reaching the outskirt of base camp filled with moraine with Kyira Phu Glacier.

Day 9Trek from Kyira Phu camp to Shishapangma and Back to camp – 05 hrs.

We will base at the late night camp for today and trek further towards the Shishapangma for better view of the mountain. For night we will trek back to Kyira Phu Camp.

Day 10Trek from Kyira Phu camp Drabochan

Today is the last actual trekking day of Shishapangma Trekking Expedition. After a memorable time at South Shisapangma base camp head back on the same route with climb and downhill to reach at large field to Drabochan for overnight stop and camping.

Day 11Drive back to Nyalam with few hour trek to Tara Tso Lake- 05 hrs.

Leave Drabochan camp in the morning in car, along the way trek few hours to go to Tara Tso Lake. After wonderful time in complete wilderness head back to Nylam taking about five hours walk on much downhill to reach at Nylam for overnight stop.

Day 12Nyalam to Kyirong

Distance: 274kms Duration: 7 Hours Elevation: 2,774 m

We will drive to the border town of Kyirong. On our road we can see the north side of the Shishapangma ( with option to visit the basecamp, 1.5 offroad drive from main road). We will also see a beautiful lake a peikutso lake.

Day 13See you off at Nepalese Border

Today marks the end of Shishapangma Trekking Expedition tour. Our Guide will drop you off in the morning at the border. They will help you checking out from China and say good bye to you at the end of check out process.
