Tsurphu to Yangpachen Trekking Tour is second most popular trekking tour in Tibet. It beguns from Tsurphu monastery and ends at Yangpachen Valley.

This trek is nicely balances between wilderness and cultural Experiences. With combination of monasteries visit and Alpine tundra and mountain panoramas.

Here you will initially walk across several high valleys before emerging into the broad and windswept yangpachen valley.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Lhasa

Elevation:3656m

We will receive you either at Lhasa Airport or at the Lhasa Tran Station. After small induction with your tour guide and driver along the way, you will be taken to your hotel. 

Its recommend to take a rest in hotel for some time to get acclimatize to High altitude of Tibet. Depending on time, by the evening some one from Agency will come to meet you at the hotels and discuss the itinerary and other stuff. Your guide will meet you next morning for visit to Local attractions in Lhasa.

Day 2Lhasa Guided Tour

Visit Jokhang Temple and Sera monastery.

In the morning,  your guide will meet you at the hotel after the breakfast. Attraction for the morning is a visit to Jokhang temple. It is the holiest temple or Macca of Tibetan Buddhism.

You will take a walk to the temple. After the visit, you can explore the local market on you own-self. Your guide will fix the time and meet up place for afternoon tour. 

In the afternoon you will visit the Sera Monastery. It is most preserved monastery in Tibet. In the monastery you can sit and observe monks debating in courtyard. 

If you would like explore the monastery on your own. You can tell your guide to give you some free times to explore the monastery on your own.

Day 3Lhasa Guided Tour

Visit Potala Palace,  and Drepung Monastery

You will visit the grand Potala Palace in the morning. The palace is an important landmark of Tibet and the masterpiece of Tibetan Architecture.

It was first built by King Songtsen Gampo, the 33rd king of Tibet’s Yurlung dynasty. Later in 17th century it was rebuilt by 5th Dalai Lama and use it as resident of successive Dalai Lama and his government. 

It is challenging to walk up the stair to 13th floor, but it is worthwhile to visit the spiritual palace, that is listed on the world heritage sites. you will climb up from the front and descent from the backside of the palace.

We will visit the Drepung Monastery in the afternoon. It is once the largest monastery in the world housing over 10,000 monks. There are lots to see along the winding and narrow lane of the monastery.

Day 4Lhasa – Tsurphu Monastery

Distance: 65km, Sleeping Elevation: 4480m, Duration: 4 hours

Today is the first day of outdoor. We will drive to The Tsurphu Monastery. The monastery is located 26 kilometers from Lhasa in a valley. Along the way we will drive into country site with different Villages and Barley fields. 

The Monastery is the Traditional seat of Karmapa, who is the head Karma Kagyu sect of Tibetan Buddhism. It is built in 1187 by Dusum Kyenpa. 

We will visit the monastery as we arrive at the monastery. In the afternoon you are free to hiking around the monastery. 

We will camp overnight near the monastery.

Day 5Hike from Tsurpu (4480) to Leten (5090)

Distance: 11kms, Sleeping Elevation: 5090m, Duration: 4 hours, Ascent: 500m

Today is first proper day of trekking for Tsurphu to Yangpachen Trekking tour. We will trek for 11 kilometers with about 500 Meters of ascent. It will take about 4 hours to reach the camp for the night.

We will walk into green valley after crossing over the mountain and watercourse within the valley. Later in the days you will see some Nomad camps scattered around. You will have opportunity to visit some Nomad Tent and see their lifestyle. 

Along the trail you will also find numerous rock house structures. These rock house are use by nomads from time to time to house their tent and yaks. 

Laten is a small nomadic place. Here you will see families living in small black tents surrounded by their livestock. Here you will camp for the night and you will have plenty of time to spend with nomadic family. You can bring gifts and stationary item for child to help bring them closer to you.

Day 6Leten- Bartso (4950m)- Tajung (4660m)

Distance: 20kms, Sleeping Elevation: 4950m, Duration: 8 hours, Ascent: 300m, Descent: 600m

after walking steeply up over a small hill, you will enter into a fascinating valley. Cairns are very common site in all the high pass in Tibet. We believe building cairns up high will bring good luck. Some also believe building it help those death spirit with place to stay during their Bardo state (the intermediate after death).  You may find your trekking guide making same occasionally.

We will see nomads as we walk further. Gradually we will cross the Laser la Pass (5300m). From the pass we will have a view of Yangpachen valley. Soon we will reach the destination for the day at Bartso.

Day 7Tajung (4660) – Dorjee ling Nunnery (4474m)

Sleeping Elevation: 4474m, Ascent: 150m, Descent: 150m,

This is our famous part of this trek, where you will see nomad’s herders as well as nuns at the beautiful Darjeeling Nunnery late in the day.  As you will continue the trail, you will have a amazing view of  the Holy Mount Nyenchen Thangla (7111m) from a ridge.

We will camp for the night at the nunnery.

Day 8Hike from Dorjeeling Nunnery(4474m) to Yangpachen Monastery (4300m) and Drive from Yangpachen Hot Spring to Namtso Lake (4770m)

Sleeping Elevation: 4747m, Duration: 4 Hours

Today is the last day of actual trekking. We will trek about 4 hours within the green valley, tracing along Lango River to meet with road to Shigatse.

We also visit the Yangpachen Monastery and Yangpachen hotspring. The monastery is established during the 15th century running by Shamar Rinpoche, a lama in Kagyupa order. Some of the murals inside the monastery are interesting ones. 

after enough relexation at the Yangpachen hotspring, we will drive to Damshung for a night in a proper hotel.

Day 9Namtso Lake – Lhasa

Sleeping Elevation: 3656m, Duration: 4-5 Hours

In the morning we will visit Namtso Lake. Along the way we will stop at Lagen pass (5190m) with piles of prayer flags on the top. There we can view the Namtso Lake from a distance.

Down within the valley, you can also see nomadic black tents all around the vast grasslands. Namtso Lake is the second-largest saltwater lake in whole China with 70km in length and 30km width. 

After visit at the Lake, we will drive back to Lhasa city. It is going to be you last night in Tibet.

Day 10Departure from Lhasa

Today, you will be leaving Tibet. Your Tour Guide and Drivers will escort you to either at airport or the Train Station.
