Tips for women trekkers in Tibet is for both solo women trekkers and trekker in a group. Though, Tibet is one of the safest destinations in the world for a female trekker. However, there are few points women need to understand for a smooth trek in Tibet.

Over our years of operating treks and tours in Tibet, We have never heard of any sexual harassment case toward women trekkers or travellers. Town and Cities in Tibet are generally safe, Yet it is recommended to go with someone when walking outside after dark. 

Tibetans very well accept travellers, yet there few taboos that you might break might unknowingly. In this post, we will discuss dos and don’ts to be considered.

Tips for Women trekkers in Tibet

Clothing 

It is highly recommended for women trekkers to wear modest cloth in Tibet. Do not wear revealing clothes like shorts and a sleeveless shirt, especially in Temples and Monastery. Long, loose and ankle-length trouser and a T-shirt are best to wear. 

In temples and monastery

Its utmost importance to maintain modesty while visiting temples and monastery. They were few occurrence when travellers ask you to go back to hotel or car change cloth. 

In all the monasteries, there is a protector’s chapel. Some monasteries protector chapels are off limited for women. You will see the notice on the entrance if you are not permitted to enter. 

Bathing and Urinating 

Most high-end trekking tours in Tibet will come with a toilet tent and a bath with a basin in the privacy of your tent. It’s modest and easier to try sponge bathing. A quick clean-up with packaged moist towelettes best recommend.

You will find a chronic shortage of bushes or handy rocks to duck behind on trekking trail in Tibet. If your trekking tour does not come with a toilet tent, a long skirt is often recommended for going out is wild for doing your nature business. Local Tibetan women would hike up their dress to do the business anywhere in the wild, Yet underwear could make it a little complicated. 

You can change your trekking pant to a long skirt in your tent when you arrive at the camp in the evening. You can also use an umbrella to squat behind the opened umbrella. 

Skincare during the trekking

Sun in Tibet could be powerful with strong UV radiation. It is probably due to the closer proximity to the sun because of the higher elevation of the plateau. So bring a good Sunscreen lotion with SPF at about 50 and higher. 

Also, bring loads of moisturiser, facial lotion or hand cream. At high up in trekking tails in Tibet, the combination and cold water and dry wind will cause chapping and cracked skin.  

Monthly Period

It is not unusual for women to skip the monthly period while trekking in Tibet. Sanitation napkin is available in all the shops in Tibet. But for a trekking tour, you will have to bring enough. 

To dispose of feminine hygiene products while trekking, you can wrap them in toilet paper, put them in plastic, and put them in our garbage bag, which we will clean at the nearest town.
