Tibet Travel permit is an extra additional travel document that every international visitor to Tibet needs to get. However, it is commonly called Tibet Visa, yet it is not the visa you will get at the Chinese Embassy in your home.
The Tibet tourism development committee solely issues this permit in Lhasa. Hence you will not get it anywhere else. Your travel agency in Lhasa, Tibet, has to apply it on your behalf.

Getting a Tibet permit for Flights to Tibet.
It is mandatory to have your original Tibet travel permit in hand while boarding the flight to Lhasa for any cities in China. Without it, you will not be permitted to walk in the plane.
There are two solutions here.
- We can send the permit to your hotel in any Chinese city.
- Arranging a person to deliver your permit to Chengdu Airport.
Suppose you want us to send your permit to your hotel in any city in China. You will have to send us your hotel address along with their phone number and booking number. It is recommended to let them know you are expecting a parcel from Tibet.
Arranging someone to deliver a permit will cost an extra 50 USD. You will have to send us your flight details and contact info. Wechat is most preferable.
Getting a Travel Permit for Train journey to Tibet.
For those visitors taking a train journey to Tibet, you will only need to have a printed copy of your permit. You will send the copy by email.
Some emails don’t work well in China. Yahoo and Hotmail work. It is best to send us more than two email address and phone number to contact you.
